Weekly Harvest
Unfortunately nothing too exciting this week...The radishes are sizing up a few every day. Already we'd harvested about 0.5 lb of these crunchy nuggets. They are tasting great this time of year - perfectly crisp and mild without the slightest hint of bitterness, which is just how it like them. I also harvested all of my remaining mizuna (0.82 lbs). They'd started to bolt but still taste perfectly fine.
I had a very busy weekend digging in the garden. My Jersey Supreme asparagus crowns had arrived from Nourse farms on Thursday (25 large crowns total) and I was able to get them into the ground on Saturday. I also received my Jaclyn raspberry canes, an everbearing variety that I'm very excited to grow. Unfortunately I won't be able to plant them until next weekend so at the moment they are resting in a bucket, the roots covered with some potting soil.
That's all I got. Hopefully you all had a lovely weekend too! Now it's back to "work" work.

ReplyDeleteI am hoping to have some fresh basil from the windowsill garden in the next couple of weeks. Those outside did not sprout, so time to seed again.

The radishes look great! I think I am going to pull my remaining Mizuna as well, they sure didn't seem to like our 90+ degree temps the past weekend, but I will definitely grow them again this fall, they were delicious!

Those radishes look picture perfect! We ate some fresh harvest asparagus for dinner last night. Having a patch is a pleasure so your invested time to plant up the 25 crowns will reward you well in about two year's time.

ReplyDeleteThose asparagus crowns should pay off big time in the years to come. It's such a great crop, and easy to grow! I really like those Jersey varieties, hope they do well for you.

ReplyDeleteThe radishes look wonderful, so colorful. Do you eat the greens also? I hear that they are good in salads or cooked. I don't grow radishes very often, I tend to not eat them.

ReplyDeleteIf you like anchovies, a very lemony vinaigrette with 3 or 4 of them, mashed finely, is delicious with quartered radishes (yours are gorgeous). I first had this at Frankies Spuntino in Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteNice radish, I haven't start them yet, I usually grow them along with the beans, don't know why, I just do it that way.
