Harvest Monday - I'm So Sick of Carrots
That's it! I promise! This is the last carrot harvest of the winter growing season. I'm as sick as you are to see them on Harvest Monday. Hopefully soon, I will have some nice Spring greens to blog about.
As I'd mentioned earlier, my garden mouse had dined on about half of my remaining Nantes carrots. Still, I was able to harvest 1.92 lbs of trimmed carrots. I was really surprised by how much they sized-up this winter. I wanted to make sure they were all pulled before the weather gets too warm and they start to send out roots again. Waiting until early March was definitely pushing it.
Here's to carrots - the ultimate winter vegetable. If you'd like to see what others are harvesting or show off your own, visit Harvest Mondays at Daphne's Dandelions.

I'm loving all your carrots! Wish I had some in the ground. If carrots get you down make carrot cake :-)
ReplyDeleteI could never get sick of looking at those carrots... Perfect color, I just know that they are so delicious!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, carrots don't get old for me either!
ReplyDeleteLately I'm all about the grated carrot salad with ginger, raisins, garlic, parsley and lemon juice.
And occasionally I make the carrot breakfast cake. Seriously, you CAN NOT GO WRONG!
Can a success ever be too much? Go for the carrot cake!
ReplyDeletecarrot/ginger/lime juice....but, I'm with you, as I drank my body weight in it this winter.
ReplyDeleteSince I don't have a winter garden, I love to look at yours. I am not yet sick of carrots, although truthfully I don't eat many (to high in sugar).
ReplyDeleteI'm not sick of your winter carrots. I love them. I just wish I was the one picking them. They look so delicious.
ReplyDeleteLol, I just pulled out the last of mine as well.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Thomas, but I'm not sick of seeing your carrots either. I love carrot juice and have even gotten my little boy hooked on it. I can't wait to plant some carrots and will definitely plant them for next winter. I hope you get some greens to harvest this spring. I love reading about your garden.
ReplyDeleteThey look pretty good to me. I'd trade some greens for a few carrots - mine are all gone!
ReplyDeleteI hate carrots. I don't know why. It doesn't matter whether or not the are boiled or eaten raw. They just bother me. They look good though!
ReplyDeleteWell, they look fantastic - but I know you're sick of them by now. I get the same way with lettuce each year...
ReplyDeleteThe carrots look great for late season over wintered ones. I am down to just a few of them in the patch and they are looking scruffy - edible but not very photogenic.
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about growing and eating in season - is that you enjoy a particular item in it's season and often end up heartily tired of it by the time it concludes - such that you are really ready for the next item(s) to come into season! The spring greens always taste magical after a long winter of largely root crops and preserved items.
They look spectacular. Looking forward to the spring greens, as well.
ReplyDeleteThomas, Johnny's Seeds blog has a recipe for Mache and Avacado salad with tortilla chips or something like that if you are interested. The blog link is on my page under the gardening blogs list if you have never visited it before.
ReplyDeleteI like carrots, I'll trade my napa for some of your carrots. Chicken and carrots make a nice broth.
ReplyDeleteYou mean overwintered carrots are not good for fresh eating? I have some in the bed, does it mean I have to pull them now? They are still very small not as big and beautiful like yours.
It's difficult to have too many carrots, especially when they look as good as that. All my carrots have been harvested and I haven't sown a new crop yet. I have to get on that, if it would stop raining.
ReplyDeleteYour carrots look beautiful... even if you are tired of them. And boy, do I understand! We felt this way about tomatoes, esp. the cherry ones, by the end of September last year. Literally sickened by the sight of them. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, and if you need a carrot cake recipe, I have a fantastic one I wouldn't mind sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteare you really sick of fresh food from your back yard?
ReplyDeleteAnother reader who is not sick of looking at gorgeous pics of your carrots. I am hoping to grow enough carrots to preserve this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the mouse left you some.
Can't say that I'm sick of your carrots. They are pretty exciting. Just wait until I start posting about carrots, you'll all be waaay past carrots by then. :)
ReplyDeleteMeredith - I would love your carrot cake recipe! Do share!
ReplyDeleteI think your carrots are beautiful. wish I could trade you for my lettuce and spinach! I don't think I could ever grow tired of carrots.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh! I harvested 80 pounds of tomatoes before the frost last fall. Blessed abundance for sure!!! We are still eating the ones I dried, froze, canned, etc. But I remember when I was done, I was DONE.
ReplyDeleteI bought a few fresh tomatoes last week for a recipe, but otherwise haven't bought any since I planted last summer.
I am curious--how do you do your watering in winter? We do all drip lines in summer and fall, but stop before the first freeze. Do you just water by hand, or just let everything fend for itself? Just wondering.
