Sing Along Friday - Country Roads

I can't think of a better way to celebrate the end of a long work week than with a good song. This has to be one of my favorites - one that I often hum to myself while working in the garden.

Happy Friday, everyone!

  1. I miss John Denver :-(

I've found myself whistling in the garden lately. Bad thing to do. Sucks in gnats.

  2. My mom played his music while I was growing up, and I had not thought of this in years! Still know the words.

You must like "inch by inch, row by row..."

  3. LOL! Gran, that's almost as bad as getting stung in the face by a yellow-jacket because you never learned the concept of 'spray and RUN!' (I'm just glad the itching is gone.)

I miss John Denver too. The nuns at my old elementary school used to play his music all the time.

  4. Marie - I'm certain many of us can relate childhood memories to John Denver. I certainly do!

  6. That's it! It's stuck in my head now! I loved all John Denver's songs - in fact I found myself singing 'Grandma's Feather Bed' for no obvious reason just the other day :)

Your begetables are looking really good. Peas haven't done well around here this year :( but my sweetcorn is almost ready and I can't wait to pick the first ears!
    Have a good weekend.

  7. Thank you, Thomas for memories of a younger, sweeter time. Where has it all gone?

  8. Pat - I find myself often wondering the same thing. Hopefully one day we'll be at that place again.

  10. Nice pick, Thomas. When the kids were small and we went camping, his songs were always a favorite to sit around the campfire at night and sing.

    Have a lovely weekend.

  12. Bittersweet. Bumper stickers now read "Almost level, West Virginia" thanks to mountaintop removal.

Sorry, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but this is an incredibly serious issue.

  13. I live in Australia and John Denver is one of my favourite singer to this day. My local radio station often plays one of his songs nearly every day. So of course I sang along! Your vegies are wonderful and a great inspiration. I thought spring onions were a waste, but at your comment that they were available when others failed, reminded me of our need for diversity. Thanks.

  14. I'm going to have to pop one of my John Denver CDs into the player on my way to work in the morning. It's probably been at least 3 years since I've played one. He was one of my brother's favorite musicians and it wasn't until I was well into adulthood that I began listening to his music as well. I remember having the pleasure of seeing him play a concert with the San Diego Symphony; must have been in the early '90s.
