Apologies and Thanks

lavender
I feel like I've been a bit remiss in my blogging and blog reading lately. I have no excuse other than to say, "life happens" and that I can't wait to read about what you all have been up to lately. I don't know about the rest of you, but sometimes I feel pulled in too many directions or stuck in an endless rat race - a symptom of living in this day and age I guess.

First of all, I've been meaning to thank Winnie (Mac) from High Desert Garden for the wonderful gift she sent to me this past week. She was kind enough to share with me a couple of root divisions from her garden (on top of the many seeds she gave me not too long ago). I'm really looking forward to transplanting this English lavender (right) and French lavender into my garden. Hopefully, they won't miss the American Southwest too much. Lavender has to be one of my favorite flowers/herbs from the Old World. I like to imagine that in a previous life, I was farming the French countryside.

Honey Yuzu Marmalade
And as an unexpected bonus, Winnie also gave me some homemade Honey Yuzu Marmalade grown from her own tree! (Score!) I will have to bake something extra special to have with this treat...maybe some challah bread.

Thank you so much Winnie! I will have to find a proper way to repay your amazing generosity one of these days.

  2. I am with you on the lavender. Seems I am always finding more uses for it. I too plan on planting more this year...one can never have too much lavender.

I enjoy your blog. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I love lavender too. It has such a great scent. I only have one in my garden and I don't even know what kind.

  5. Thomas, never apologize for not blogging due to being busy!! We will always be here when you have time. I, too, have been a bit lazy in my blogging, but not because I am lazy, LOL, but I have been busy out in the yard and garden getting ready for Spring and finding new things to blog about when I get a chance! Hope you didn't get too much rain the past weekend - it rained every day here but interspersed with periods of gorgeous sun, great to be in the garden as long as I can keep from walking out of my boots in the mud, LOL! Hope your weather is brightening and warming up.

  6. I definitely understand the the "pulls of life" especially with my school work load varying a lot. Sometimes it actually stresses me out to write a blog post. I feel obligated but have so many things to do.

Sometimes I just write a bunch (5) and then automate them for a week. It's less personal and the lack of comments usually show that. I just don't like to go too long.

Everyone here seems to love lavender! I think maybe I should get some...

  7. Thomas - we all get sidetracked from time to time. No big deal.

  8. I'm going to have to jump on that lavender bandwagon! I've never grown it, but I do love the scent and the flavor. What a wonderful friend you have in Winnie, and such lovely gifts.

Don't stress out when you're too busy to blog. We miss you when you aren't here every single day, but we'll survive ;-)

  9. No worries Thomas! I am always amazed at the bloggers who manage to do an almost daily post. I do well to get two or three posts a week and sometimes that has to go on hold when things in real life demand my time and focus.

The lavendar plants and marmalade are lovely gifts. We have some large lavendar fields/farms about 20 minutes drive from our place... they are heavenly to visit when the bloom is on.

  10. Don't stress yourself too much, take a little break once in a while. Blogging is not a yob (job), enjoy it when you have time.
    Glad you like the plants.

  11. As its getting warmer outside and gardening chores are accumulating, there is less and less time for blogging. And that’s how it should be.

I love lavender, and I try to grow one each year, but every winter they freeze and die. I’m not a type of a person to move plants in and out twice a year. If they are out, they are out. I will buy another one this year and maybe try to protect it with some kind of cover next winter.
