Celebrating the Fall Equinox
Fall is officially upon us. This evening I celebrated by doing a little dance around my broccoli plants, which seem to be crowning nicely. I think I'll able to harvest the one pictured above very soon. Once the main crown is picked, the plant will then produce side shoots.
I also mustered up enough energy to pick some tomatoes and a small bunch of Asian greens. After dinner, I went out to look upon the Harvest moon for a bit and thought about all of the farmers who have done so throughout the ages.

When did you sow the broccoli seeds, May, June? For me, broccoli is so difficult to grow, mostly because I don't know when to expect it to start forming heads.
ReplyDeleteTomato harvest looks lovely, as always. And I think I see one eggplant there?
Vrtlarica - I sowed the seeds in early July. They've grown very well despite the heat. I made sure to water them almost everyday when they were young.
ReplyDeleteYes! Another eggplant. They didn't produce all too well this year but are surprisingly tasty.
Wow, you have broccoli and tomatoes at the same time! Impressive, Thomas!
ReplyDeleteOh broccoli. I so wish I had some in the garden. Yours looks just delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks wonderful to me!!! I miss my tomatoes. :)
ReplyDeleteThomas, your broccoli looks fabulous. Mine is a bit behind but I think it will make it. I have to say thanks again for the Cherokee Purple and the Komohana Grape tomato seed...they are doing wonderful! My family loves the Cherokee Purple flavor so much they eat them off the vine. This is my first year growing eggplant and it is still pretty small...I was wondering can you pick them small or will they taste bad?
ReplyDeleteWow, the broccoli looks good, I haven't been able to sprout any broccoli yet, but I manage to get cabbage and cauliflower going, stroke of luck!
ReplyDeleteI was doing a similar little happy dance around my broccoli this week - as mine too are heading up. No such tomato harvest to match yours though. That is a beautiful haul of ripe tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteOh that is one nice broccoli head! I'm still waiting on my fall plants... one of these days.
